Heron Preston and Formula E are bringing material experimentation and electric racing into the same design conversation.

The newly announced creative partnership explores what motorsport fashion can look like when apparel is considered from the material level forward. Preston’s eX-Ray approach meets Formula E’s focus on energy recovery, technical development and resource efficiency, with recycled cotton made from pre-consumer factory off-cuts forming part of the early material direction.
The first public preview is tied to ComplexCon Los Angeles, where the project will present eX-Ray material studies alongside a GEN4 Formula E car carrying an exclusive Heron Preston-designed livery.
That crossover makes the partnership more than a conventional fashion capsule. It sits between apparel, industrial design, mobility and technology—areas that increasingly share the same creative language. Formula E says the longer-term program could extend into performance products, fan merchandise, accessories and objects made from upcycled materials drawn from the sport.
For KOLAK, the interesting part is the process: taking systems usually hidden behind a finished product—fabric sourcing, engineering, recovery and reuse—and making them visible as part of the design itself.
