The Moon Shoe traces its design language to 1971, before Nike even carried its current name. Bill Bowerman’s waffle-sole experiments created a traction pattern whose footprints reminded runners of the surface of the moon, giving the prototype its enduring nickname.
More than five decades later, Nike has put the silhouette back into orbit with LISA. The campaign connects the shoe’s handmade performance origins with a contemporary world shaped by music, fashion and global sneaker culture.
The revived model retains the low-profile proportions and Waffle outsole that make its lineage immediately legible while mixed materials update the upper for the present.
For KOLAK, the interesting part is how an experiment becomes an archive and then becomes new again. A practical solution built for track grip can survive long enough to become a cultural object—without losing the design decision that made it recognizable in the first place.
